Photo © Diana Murphy Jean-Marc Carisse has photographed the political and social scenes in Ottawa and around the world for over 40 years.  He was official photographer  for the Prime Minister's Office for many years and now works as a freelance photographer and photojournalist.  He served Prime Ministers Trudeau, Turner and Chrétien as official photographer.  He's also photographed consecutive Prime Ministers from Diefenbaker to Harper, US Presidents from Ford to Obama and hundreds of world leaders.  Many of his photographs have appeared on the covers and pages of history and political books (including his own coffee table book "Privileged Access w/ Trudeau, Turner & Chrétien" by Warwick Publ. 2000),  magazines including Time, Paris Match and Maclean's, as well as TV documentaries and biographies.   Carisse captured many performers, comedians, singers, artists, actors, icons and heroes, on stage and off, formally and informally, at home and around the world.  These include Bob Dylan, Princess Diana, Pope JPII, Queen Elizabeth, Al Pacino, Rudolf Nureyev, Tom Waits, Fidel Castro, Bob Hope, Yousuf Karsh,  the Dalai Lama, and Mother Teresa to name a few.   He graduated with a BA (concentration in Visual Arts) from the University of Ottawa.  Library and Archives Canada holds approximately half a million negatives shot by Carisse.  He has donated approx. 69,000 negatives approx. 10 years ago to the National Archives of Canada and his P.M.Chrétien collection (approx. 400,000 negatives) were donated in 2005.  He plans on donating more of the Trudeau-Chrétien years in the future. His photo exhibit "My Trudeau Years" in 2002 and 2003 at Library and Archives Canada, which had been extended twice by popular demand, reflected his professional relationship with Trudeau and their mutual respect .  Eight weeks before his passing, Trudeau met with him and agreed to be photographed once more on his last day at his Heenan Blaikie law office in Montreal, choosing his poses as he did many times before.  It was their final sitting together. Jean-Marc Carisse is a recipient of the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal and  continues to work as a photojournalist and portrait photographer in Ottawa. Charbonneau 1994 Publications & Photo Exhibits     Carisse published  “Privileged Access with Trudeau, Turner and Chrétien” 2000, a coffee table book. It was voted 'best political book of the year' by Hill Times. It contains hundreds of photographs featuring his shadowing of the three prime ministers.        His exhibit "My TRUDEAU Years" (Oct. 25, 2002 to April 24, 2003) at the Library and Archives of Canada,  showcased a collection of 57 mostly unpublished photographs that chronicle Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau as Prime Minister, Opposition Leader and as private citizen, over the last quarter century.  It began touring at the Pavilion Gallery Museum in Winnipeg on June, 2003    Photos featured in the exhibit “The Charter. It’s Ours.
